Fondo Natural (Natural Foundation) is an independent non-profit-making organization that was founded in 1991 to promote a sustainable development that benefits people and the environment.

The project “Ecological route in the woods of Gamueta” seeks to make the beauty of this place valued. The beauty is guaranteed in the high quality of the environment in the municipality union Ansó-Fago.

Its conservation is everybody’s responsibility.

We count on your collaboration!

The beech-spruce forest of Gamueta is a unique site of exceptional value and is considered by many scientists to be the best mountain forest in the Spanish Pyrenees. It is the last refuge for several endangered animals and plants and has the greatest collection of gargantuan trees in Aragón. It is preserved thanks to the commitment of the inhabitants of the municipality union of Ansó-Fago with support from institutions and a vast number of social collectives…

You can easily walk the length of the track in 3 hours. The path begins opposite the “Refugio de Linza” (Lodging house of Linza) and ascends through the “Paso del Caballo” (The horse step). One passes woods, meadows and brooks until reaching the end of the Gamueta track through which one descends to a clay pit and the bridge of the Zuriza road. At some points, it connects with other paths that make it possible to shorten the distance – one could descend to “Fuente de Los Clérigos" (The spring of the clergymen) or ascend to places of greater altitude such as “Chinebral, Plana Diego, Las Foyas”.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE VISIT:

The route is marked with numbered beacons, information panels, arrows and marks of green and yellow paint on rocks, trees or posts.

Remember that it is a protected natural space. One should always act with the greatest respect.

Collect your rubbish, don’t pull up flowers and don’t capture animals. Dogs should be kept on a leash, especially when close to the cattle.

One is not allowed to light fires, to camp or to collect fungus. Also, driving by car in the paths requires permission from the local authority.

Feel the forest, move in silence and listen to the sounds without disturbing the animals or other visitors.

Write down your observations and information of whatever discovery, doubt or incident.

Leave the path and don’t disturb the herd in its areas of pasture or relaxation.

Before starting the walk revise your equipment carefully: boots, warm underwear, sun cream, water…

Keep up-to-date on the latest weather forecast. Snow or rain can obscure parts of the path or leave the ground slippery.

Don’t neglect the security.

We trust you to be responsible.
